Strawberry Avalanche For Creatives

“If you were a beautiful sound in the echoes all around
Then I’d be your harmony
And we’d sing along with the crowds
Beneath the candy coated clouds
Oh strawberry avalanche please crash over me”
Owl City

Five years ago, I made a post about strawberries. But hang on, let me stop you right there. Five freaking years ago. I still can’t believe I’ve been doing this blogging thing for eight years, and it’s so weird to look back at my old posts because I remember it like it was yesterday! But in reality so much time has gone by.

Anyway, way back five years ago, I saw that we had some strawberries in our fridge, and I decided to do a mini photoshoot with them. When I looked back just the other day and read that post, all I could think was how awful those photos are!! And how I would do things so much different.

I remember that in my head, I had an idea of how I wanted the photos to turn out, but for some reason it just wasn’t working. And of course now I see the pictures and my brain is just screaming “FULL SUN, EMILY. WAIT FOR GOLDEN HOUR.” ;) So I decided that it would be fun to take similar strawberry photos again, just to compare my growth side by side.

It really just cracks me up that I had this idea five years ago, and I went outside at like, 11 freaking am, and thought the pictures would turn out nice. Hahaha. Oh sweet, innocent little Emily.

So first a few pictures from the mini photoshoot with the strawberries at golden hour :)

I bought that container at Target, and it is so great for pictures!

Let me tell you, getting the perfect amount of water to spray on these strawberries was quite the struggle. I wish I could remember what I did for the last strawberry photoshoot, so they could be more similar!

And now, what everybody is waiting for, the before & afters!

I think it’s always a good idea to look back on where you came from, and to compare then & now photos! If nothing else it’s good for a laugh :)

Gorgeous! I love how light & airy they feel with the water looking like a mist almost. Isn’t it amazing how much we evolve as artists! I am curious what your lens was & settings were for the recent series.

Thank you, Shannon! For these photos I used my 5D Mark III, 50mm f/1.2L, and my settings were 1/1600, f/1.8, and ISO 320.
