Unlike the cover photo suggests, this post has nothing to do with Kate. I just had a cool picture of her jumping ;)
I’ve been hinting around for the last month that I had some exciting news to share! Let’s just get this out of the way… I’m not engaged, and nobody in my family is having a baby. At least NOT THAT I KNOW OF. Haha.
Now that I think about it, both of those are pretty huge, life altering things, so hopefully nobody is disappointed by the actual news ;) But here it is: We’re moving!!
If you know my family, you probably know that my parents have been diligently searching to find a house that my grandparents can move into as well. And let me tell you… It has been a very long journey. Four years to be exact! It’s so hard to believe it’s actually been that long. There has been a huge laundry list of things the new house needed to have. A master suite on the main level, a large dining room, heated laundry room, a garage, two living rooms, and so much more. For the longest time, it felt like there were too many competing requests! My grandparents wanted to live in the city, and my parents wanted to live in the country. Dad wanted more acreage, but he didn’t want to have to mow as much (rightly so… he’s been push-mowing our yard for 11 years now! He’s the best, and he deserves a break).
There were lots of other little things that went into looking at houses too… We didn’t want any of our living spaces to be on top of my grandparents main level master suite, because we didn’t want to be walking on their heads. The shower in their bathroom needed to have little to no step-in, and the doorways needed to be wheelchair accessible (in case that’s needed in the future). I would get so frustrated with the whole process, and I told mom more than a few times “It’s just not going to work! No house exists with all of our demands!!”.
And let me tell you… I was very wrong about that. Because there is a house that meets every single one of those needs, and a lot of the wants too. The house is about 40 yards from the river (I’ve already bought a kayak ;), and I am so excited to string a hammock up under the trees and take a nap! Somehow this house is in the perfect location too… Less than a mile from downtown, but so secluded and surrounded by farmland. It has the acreage that dad wants, but because of the landscaping, most of it requires no mowing! It has a 3 car garage, and so much storage.
So what does this really have to do with me? After all, I’m 20 (21 in a week!)… I should be moving out soon, right? I am going to do another post on this soon, but for now I’m just going to say that I am very happy to stay at home! And mostly because I get my own apartment in the basement! It has its own kitchen, garage, a patio overlooking the river, and so much more. Even before finding this house, I have been collecting all kinds of things for when I eventually move out! I have been so fortunate to be able to purchase a new leather sofa, a dining table set, a KitchenAid mixer, and so many other fun things! I cannot wait to move into this apartment and make it my little home! I want to be able to offer client meetings there, because who wouldn’t want to see my cute little office and eat some fresh baked cookies? :)
Mom and I have always loved packing up and moving, and we are absolutely thrilled to be putting all our things in boxes! We won’t actually be moving until August, but our house is going on the market very soon! Anybody want to buy a house in Harrisonburg? ;)
One of the most wonderful things about this house is that it completely fell into our laps. After four years of searching with a realtor and scouring real estate websites every day (that was all mom ;) haha!), we had a family friend call and say “hey! heard you were looking for a house! want to come see ours?”, and BOOM. It was perfect. We have been praying so hard that this would work out, and I’m still a little in shock that the Lord gave us something that was even better than what we wanted. God is so good!
Also, somebody needs to stop me from going to Target to buy new things for the apartment. Seriously, it’s like an everyday thing now. SEND HELP.
So that’s the big news! It’s been a little busy around here, getting the house ready to sell, but it’s all very exciting! I can’t wait to move, and have my own little place. It’s going to be so much fun! I’ll be sharing as much as I can, and especially once we move in I’ll have lots of before and afters! For now though, here is just one photo of the new house… I’m so excited to see it in the summer when all the trees are green!
I know I said it before, but seriously… if you want to come and look at our house, DO IT. It’s in an amazing location (4 miles from EMU!), in a great neighborhood, finished walkout basement, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms! I’m going to see if I can find pictures of what this house looked like before we moved in, because it was CRAZY. Picture green walls, pink carpet, and dark cabinets. It’s a whole new house! Who knows? It might just be the perfect house for you ;)
Everything has worked out so smoothly to this point, and we’re praying that continues! I’m so excited to move in, I can hardly wait :)
